Return to Original Blog
Thank you to all who have offered words of encouragement, forwarded this blog to others, and sent donations to help the people of Gonaives. I can assure you that your support has had a significant impact on their lives during this difficult time.
As you can see from my last two entries, the Haitian people are still living with the effects of Hurricanes Hanna and Ike everyday. Nonetheless, I am redirecting my efforts toward my original project. I still believe that long-term solutions to the environmental degradation and economic stagnation in Haiti are necessary to avoid the worst effects of hurricanes and other natural disasters.
You may continue to follow my experiences at my original blog: http://lizziebell.wordpress.com. If you have questions about the project or how you can help, please contact me through the comments section and I will respond to you directly.

Hi,
I have been perusing your website, find your experiences to be very interesting, and I’m really excited about what you’re trying to do! I am currently starting work with my church in Oklahoma to serve a system of orphanages in the country, but as I have a meteorological background I can’t help but want to see this growing community become resilient to hurricanes. I’m just beginning to explore this idea, but I think you may be able to give me some useful advice – where could I go to find organizations to partner with that work with communities either pre- or post- hurricane? Are any of them Haitian, grassroots organizations? I’d really like to help the Haitians develop this efficacy, and not necessarily just go through an international relief organization that isn’t fully integrated into their culture. If you have any advice, please send it my way! And good luck at IU – I graduated from Purdue myself, but one of my best friends went through their master’s program in environmental science – great program choice!
